“Ken was a super guy in all aspects. My lasting memory of Commissioner Ken Clark was when he stood up for Master Gardeners policy of offering educational programs to the public… free of charge. We were at a scheduled meeting regarding a policy to start charging attendance. fees as requested by Texas Agri-life Service AKA Texas A/M University. After a lot of discussion (negative and positive), in our defense he made the motion there would be no fees collected as the building where the programs were presented had been built for this purpose by bonds passed by the taxpayers. Therefore, it would be wrong to double-dip. A second was made and it was the right thing to do to resolve the issue by Commissioner Clark. I was so proud and appreciative as he was a horticulturist and supported us. This was a DEFINING moment in Galveston County Master Gardeners.”
